ABOUT JWFF・映画祭について
JAPAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL is an international short film festival & art festival. The festival is held at two separate venues in Tokyo, Ibaraki. The Festival focuses on discovering and celebrating the cultural diversity of the world through Cinema and Art, and also appreciating and enjoying the uniqueness of the Japan’s rural area in Ibaraki and modern city Tokyo as each city has their own uniqueness and cultural traditon.
ジャパンワールド映画祭は世界各国の映画を上映する国際映画祭・芸術祭です。世界の映画が魅せてくれる、世界の多様な文化や価値観を楽しめるイベントです。ジャパンワールド映画祭は旅する映画祭として、東京、茨城で開催。日本各地の地域の多様性を楽しむ映画祭でもあります。会場には地元の特産品など飲食ブースが並び、地域の独自性を楽しみながら世界の映画やアートをエンジョイする、そんなフェスティバルです。
OUR VISION・映画祭のビジョン
JAPAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL vision is to embrace the cultural diversity and celebrate the differences and uniqueness. By showcasing films from across the globe we are able to discover and appreciate our differences and similarities through art. In this day and age we can live our lifestyle this way, for example even the work, we no longer just work for cone company but we can practice multiple skills and possibilities. Our work environment has changed so much. Same goes to our daily living lifestyle. We are not able to live both in cities and in nature. Our mission is to support this new lifestyle and value to free human being for maximum potentials and art can definitely an essential ingredient for this to happen. これからの時代は多様性というキーワードが切っても切り離せません。仕事も一つの会社で一つの能力だけを伸ばすのではなく様々なスキル・可能性をどんな場所でも実践できる、副業やリモートワークやさまざまな仕事のあり方が現実化しつつあります。暮らしも同じです。東京だけで暮らすのではなく自然と触れた二拠点生活なども可能、子育て世代であれば公立・私立に通わせるだけが選択肢ではない、フリースクールという存在も大きい時代です。人々が自由に選択できる多様性の富んだライフスタイル。そんな素晴らしい時代をサポートしていきたいという想いがあります。この映画祭・芸術祭は東京や茨城で同時に開催することで、それぞれの地域の魅力を肌で感じていただける仕組みです。映画は世界各国から集まる多様性に富んだ芸術作品です。映画の多様性と暮らしの多様性を愛でる、そんな映画祭を目指しています。
OUR HISTORY・これまでの歩み
2024
We held an event both in IBARAKI and TOKYO. It was our first time to collaborate with Arawaka Ward, Tokyo attracting over 1,000 audiences during the two day screenings. Tokyo and Ibaraki connected, we were able to create a platform for rigorous discussions about rural area and city balance and further understanding each regions role to appreciate diversity in inclusive manner which essentially leads to the appreciation of different cultures worldwide. And cinema became a bridge to strengthen the conversation and bond. In Ibaraki we attracted more youth this year and provided an opportunity for people to participate in filmmaking workshop and / or festival organization.
東京と茨城での開催でしたが初の荒川区での開催はアウトドア上映で２日間でのべ1,000人のご来場者に恵まれました。都市と地方の違い、多様性、文化を映画を通じて繋ぎ、上映やトークショーなどで理解や関係が深まったと思っております。それは世界の多様な文化への理解にもつながってゆく緩やかで大切なプロセスです。茨城の会場では若者の参加が増加し幅広い年齢層の方々が映画祭や映画作りワークショップを通じて関係を深め、地域について、世界について思いを馳せました。
2023
IBARAKI venue was packed with over 550 audience attendance and we had some amazing film line ups to showcase. We also had our filmmakers as our guest on stage to talk about their films. Also we arranged the Q&A via online for filmmakers who were not able to attend the live event and able to connect with our live audience. JWFF also produced a municipal CITY MUSICAL which had over 200 audiences. As JWFF, We took Ibaraki staff to NAGANO Venue also for cultural exchange and two cities HITACHIOMIYA and IIZUNA connected! Tokyo venue unfortunately has failed to accommodate our festival due to contractual issues. However we are in search of the new partnership in Tokyo.
2023年度の茨城の開催は盛大でした！過去最大の５５０名のご来場者様を迎えて映画祭・芸術祭が開催されました。アメリカからも映画監督が来日し登壇するなど国際色豊かなイベントとなりました。来日ができなかった監督たちもオンラインで参加し日本と世界各国がつながる貴重な体験となりました。本年度は茨城で市民ミュージカルのプロデュースにも携わりましてそちらも大いに盛り上がりました。長野での小規模開催では茨城からの参加者を数名連れていき茨城県常陸大宮の名産鮎の塩焼きを提供し２つの市町がつながるきっかけとなりました。東京開催は契約上の問題などもあり現在保留となってしまいました、現在も新しいパートナー・協力団体を東京では探しているところです。
2022
3rd Year JAPAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL was held. Within just a year, the audience grew up to over 400 audience, great exposure for filmmakers.In Ibaraki JWFF held a filmmaking workshop and produced a local film “LET’S MAKE BLUEBERRY JAM”. The film was also screened at the festival as non-competitive category.
３年目の開催となるジャパンワールド映画祭は同じく東京、茨城、長野で開催しました。旅する映画祭へと進化して２年目にして集客400名を集める成長を遂げた。茨城では映画作りワークショップを市民と行い、地域PR映画を制作し注目を集めた。
2021
SHINJUKU WORLD FILM FESTIVAL became JAPAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL.
2nd year JWFF expanded and screened films at 3 venues, Shinjuku, Tokyo / Hitachiomiya, Ibaraki / Iizuna, Nagano.
新宿ワールド映画祭はジャパンワールド映画祭と改名し第二回として開催。開催地を東京の新宿だけに留めず、茨城県常陸大宮市（ひたちおおみや）や長野県飯綱町へと広げた。世界映画の多様性と日本の各地の地域の多様性をかけた映画祭へと進化しました。

Due to the Covid, we had to postpone our Festival.

2019
1st SHINJUKU WORLD FILM FESTIVAL, the predecessor of the present JAPAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL began at “SHINJUKU AT THEATRE”. Nearly 200 films were submitted from around the world and many filmmakers attended the festival. The past screenings included the films with Yui Masayuki (Akira Kurosawa film), Naoto Takenaka (Shall we dance), Gérard Depardieu (Academy awards winner). We also invited the producer Mr. Bruce J. Nachbar (Party of Five) to talk about Hollywood filmmaking. The Festival was also partly supported by the organization CINEMA PLANNERS, the Japan’s biggest independent filmmakers community platform.
第一回 新宿ワールド映画祭を新宿アットシアターを拠点に開催。世界各国から200作品近くが寄せられました。映画祭はシネマプランナーズ様のご協力のもと開催。
2015
TOKYO CINEMA UNION members invested to establish the Japan’s probably the first union theatre “SHINJUKU AT THEATRE” in Shinjuku.
東京シネマユニオンの組合メンバー（アーティスト）の出資により新宿に初となるユニオンシアター”新宿アットシアター”を設立。
2012
TOKYO CINEMA UNION was established and its sole purpose was to support Japan’s independent spirited filmmakers to be free from the major studio system
to be able to craft their creativity and diverse expression through cinema while nurturing the film and entertainment industry.
日本の映画業界を支えるクリエーターのユニオン（組合）となる東京シネマユニオンを設立。大手の大作映画だけに左右されない、表現者たちが自分たちの創作を高めながら
業界全体を底上げするために立ち上げられました。
